Legislation introduced to rein in short-term rentals, deliver more homes for people

In October 2023, the Province of British Columbia introduced legislation to regulate the growing short-term rental market, which has been reducing the availability of affordable housing. The legislation aims to increase fines, strengthen local government enforcement tools, and return more short-term rentals to long-term homes. Data shows that since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of short-term rentals in the province has skyrocketed.
